You followed your dream. You built your business.

Your Way

Now make sure people know about it:
I build websites that communicate your vision.

Do you need an effective website, or a website makeover, for your business?

Website Design

A website is a critical part of your company’s marketing strategy. For some potential customers, it may be the first exposure they have to your company. It is important that the experience a customer has visiting your website is consistent with all other points of contact they will make with your company.

Your website does not have to be a large, expensive venture. But if you are going to have a website, it must be a professional representation of your company. A poorly designed, difficult to navigate, out of date website will actually cause you to lose customers.

I will help you develop a quality website to market your company. I excel in developing websites with a clean, clear and concise design, that can become a powerful sales tool. I believe in simplicity of design and navigation, and in the consistency of the website experience with your other marketing communications.

Building your website with a Content Management System means you will be able to edit and update your content at any time simply by logging in through your web browser. This means you don’t have to pay me every time you need a little change to your site! It also means that you can easily change the look of your site down the road – as the information is stored in a database, separate from the site template that is used to display the information.

A site built on a Content Management System can also include a blog, which gives you a great way to add fresh content to your site on a regular basis (something that is important in search engine ranking). It is also a great way to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

The Content Management System I have chosen to use is WordPress. I have found it is easy for end users to use, even if they are not computer experts. And it is very flexible, allowing us to build all kinds of different functionality into your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What information do I need to get started?

The package prices are based on all content being provided by you. This includes the website copy (words), and images that you want incorporated into your website, an your logo. I cannot schedule or begin working on your website until I have all of this information.

You also need a domain name. If you don’t already have a domain you can register one now.

How does this whole process work?

In addition to your website content (logo, images, words), I will need to get some additional information from you:

  • I will need to know who your target customer is – so I can design the website to appeal to them (are they young or old, conservative or trendy, etc.)
  • If you have any direct competitors, I will ask you for their websites. You certainly don’t want your site to look like theirs, but we need to know what they are doing so we can do it better!
  • I will ask you for links to some websites that you like – and what you like about them, so I can get a sense of your style.
  • I will want to see other marketing materials you are currently using (business card, brochure, advertisements, etc.) so I we can make sure that your website is in line with your established brand.

Armed with all this information, I will come up with a layout for your site. This will normally take about a week. I will send you a link to review the initial layout (usually the Home page), and we will go from there – making adjustments as required based on your feedback. When we are happy with the layout, I will proceed with the rest of the site.

What if your packages don't have what I want?

No problem! I have put these packages together based on my experience with what many people are looking for, to make things easier. Please get in touch and let me know your requirements. If it is something I can do, I will get back to you with a custom quote on your job.

What are your payment terms?

I require a 50% deposit of the development cost prior to starting work on your site. The remaining 50% must be received prior to the site going live (or within 30 days, whichever comes first). I accept payments through PayPal or Interac bank transfer. Monthly website hosting fees will be set up through PayPal as a recurring monthly subscription. A discount is offered if you wish to pay annually rather than monthly.

What is maintenance and why do I need it?

Having a WordPress website is great – it gives you the ability to add and edit content on your website on your own, without having to pay me (or anyone else) to update it for you. It means your website is built on a solid platform with the most popular content management system in use today.

Having a WordPress site does come with responsibilities. There are frequent updates to the WordPress core, both to add new features, and to fix security issues. It is important that your installation of WordPress is updated to the latest version to keep your site, and all the other sites on the server, safe. Likewise, themes and plugins (software used to build your site) will issue updates that need to be installed on your site. You will also need to back up your site frequently, ideally to an offsite location. You should also do security scans on your site to monitor for signs of hackers. In the event that there is a hardware malfunction, or your site is hacked, you will be able to restore your site from your saved backup.

A WordPress maintenance plan will take care of all these things for you, so you don’t have to worry and can spend your time where you should be spending it: on running your business. In addition, my maintenance plans include ongoing support for any questions you may have about managing the content of your site.

About Me

Joan Donogh

Joan Donogh

I have been making beautiful websites for over 15 years. I am a freelance web designer and I work with small businesses and other independents to create a professional image for their company.

Over 20 years of corporate business experience in logistics, marketing and advertising gives me an excellent understanding of corporate communication requirements and customer needs.

I have specialized in working with the WordPress platform. WordPress, an open source program originally focused on blogging, has developed into a full content management system, allowing end users to manage their own website content by logging in through a web browser.

While I am not a programmer, I do have experience with installing and customizing PHP web programs such as membership management applications, forums, events calendars, directory listings.

When I am not working, or learning a new web design trick, you might find me with my husband on our boat on Lake Vernon in the beautiful Muskoka region of Ontario.
